MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY: A Day Of Advent Retreat to be held December 11

Marquette University issued the following announcement.

A DAY OF ADVENT RETREAT

Fri, 11 Dec, 2020 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Join us for a day of reflection and prayer as a community to share in the quiet mystery of Advent.

Sr. Anne Arabome, SSS, Associate Director of the Faber Center, will be our featured morning speaker followed by Mass celebrated by University Chaplain Rev. Fred Zagone, S.J. In the afternoon, attendees will have the opportunity to choose from a wonderful selection of breakout sessions (Ignatian Yoga, Prayer with Art, or Music in Troubled Times) and then we will conclude the retreat with the Examen.

This virtual retreat is complimentary and open to all Marquette alumni, faculty and staff, students, parents and friends.

9:00 a.m. WELCOME AND OPENING SESSION

Please join us and Sr. Anne Arabome, Associate Director of the Faber Center, as she leads our morning prayer and reflection. Through stories, sharing, and guided meditations, she will explore the themes of Advent and the meaning they offer us today.

11:00 a.m. MASS

Celebrated by Rev. Fred Zagone, S.J., University Chaplain

11:30 a.m. BREAK

12:30 p.m. BREAKOUT SESSIONS

Ignatian Yoga - Please join us as Ms. Carolyn Swabek, Director of the Trinity Fellows and trained Ignatian Yoga instructor as she shares a practice of Nedra Yoga and Ignatian Contemplation. This session will allow us to enter more physically and spiritual the mystery of this season.

Prayer with Art - Please join us as Ms. Lynne Shumow, Curator of the Haggerty Museum of Art as she shares images and stories from the collections Book of Hours circa 1460. These beautiful sketches bring a prayerful look into the season.

Music in Troubled Times: Lifting Up the Promise of Advent Hope - Please join us as Marquette University Campus Ministry Music Directors, Steven Burks, Marquette Gospel Choir Director and Tom Koester, Liturgical Choir Director, explore a variety of styles of music for Advent worship to lift our hearts and souls. 

1:30 p.m. CLOSING EXAMEN

We will close the day with a traditional prayer of St. Ignatius, the Examen, which will be led by a current Marquette student.
