West Allis/West Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
The Wauwatosa School District is reminding students and families of the importance of limiting the spread of COVID-19 in its schools and community through a new outreach effort. The district will focus on five key actions students can take each day, including wearing masks, washing their hands, keeping their distance, staying home when sick and getting vaccinated if they are eligible to do so.
At the elementary level, this will take the form of a “Team UP” campaign, encouraging students to Back UP (socially distance), Mask UP (wear a face covering), Clean UP (wash their hands) and Hold UP (stay home when feeling sick). For Wauwatosa middle schools, a “Gimme Five” campaign will use the visual of a high-five to remind students of the five key factors. At the district’s two high schools, the “Let’s Stay Together” campaign will speak to how following health and safety protocols will help ensure students can continue to attend school in person and see their friends and classmates on a daily basis.
“Our students have been doing an exceptional job of following our health and safety protocols. At the same time, we continue to monitor COVID data in Wauwatosa and in our broader community,” said Dr. Demond Means, Wauwatosa School District Superintendent. “We aim to reach our students in new ways as we reinforce the practices that will help us keep one another safe during the pandemic.”
In the coming weeks, students, staff and families will notice new signs in the district’s buildings and new posts published to social media speaking to how everyone can contribute to a safe and healthy learning environment.
“We appreciate the support of our families and our entire school district community in this effort,” said Dr. Means. “Together, we can reduce the spread of this terrible virus and keep our schools open for the entirety of the school year.”
