Village Conducting Public Hearing on 2022 Proposed Budget

Budget 02

Village Of Shorewood issued the following announcement on Nov. 12

The Village will be conducting a public hearing for the 2022 proposed budget this Monday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Those that wish to attend the meeting virtually can find the agenda packet and call in information in the agenda center. Please Click here for the proposed budget in its entirety.

Below are some of the main points you should be aware about with the 2022 proposed budget:

  • The proposed budget contains an overall tax levy increase of 0.92% or $108,213 over the prior year tax levy.
  • This would compute to a $18 increase for the Village portion of a property tax bill on a $340,000 valued home in Shorewood in 2022.
  • Approximately $50,000 of this increase relates to an increase in the debt service tax levy to pay for past projects.
  • Prior Village Board action changes the method of collection for the water utility public fire protection fees, which improves comparability between communities and can allow the village to restore annual capital funding to long‐term sustainable levels while still maintaining our eligibility for about $275,000 of state aids under the Expenditure Restraint program.
  • Court Fines have been projected to decrease by $40,000 due to changing trends. Parking fines (net) have been projected to decrease by about $40,000 due to the drop in overnight parking violations that came with the expansion of the on‐street parking permit program.
  • This budget includes a 25% sewer utility rate increase in preparation for the major southeast sewer projects, and the costs that will be associated with those projects that are expected to begin in 2023 and continue through 2025.
