Wauwatosa Launches New COVID-19 Vaccine Campaign

Vaccs

Cities/Villages/Towns issued the following announcement on Feb 9.

The City of Wauwatosa Health Department has announced the launch of a new campaign encouraging residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The campaign will include digital advertising, radio and TV commercials, and social media content.

“We did a similar initiative last year, and we saw a lot of success with it in our residents getting vaccinated,” said Laura Stephens, Health Officer and Director of the City of Wauwatosa Health Department. “This effort is focused on adult residents staying up to date on their vaccination by getting a booster shot, as well as encouraging them to get their children vaccinated.”

During their first vaccine marketing campaign in the summer of 2021 (July-August), the City of Wauwatosa saw a 46% increase in their seven-day vaccination average. They also had 1,460 individuals get vaccinated during that two-month period, raising the vaccination rate of eligible adults to 76.3% by the end of the campaign.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “there have been nearly 2 million cases of COVID-19 within this age group [ages 5-11] during the pandemic” and that complications of COVID-19 could lead to hospitalization or death. The virus can also be transmitted to other older family and community members who are more vulnerable.

The CDC also recommends that people ages 12 and up who received the initial Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine—and 18 and up who received the Moderna vaccine—should get a booster shot at least five months after initial vaccination to stay up to date.

“We’re proud that Wauwatosa has one of the highest vaccination rates in the State of Wisconsin, but we need to stay vigilant,” Stephens added. “These are two proactive measures that people can take to keep our Wauwatosa community safe. We thank all those who have received their vaccines and booster shots, as well as all the healthcare workers who continue to fight against this serious health crisis.”
