Twice as many voters blame President Joe Biden for high gas prices as do Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a new national survey.
In a recent national poll distributed by the Senate Opportunity Fund (SOF), 46% of Americans blame Biden for high gas prices in America, while less than 25% blame Putin. An additional 19% blamed both Putin and Biden.
The SOF poll was conducted March 15-17, 2022. It surveyed 800 general election likely voters on a national scale.
Gasoline is a leading driver of consumer inflation. The Gasoline Misery Index shows the average American pays $667 more annually than they did a year ago.
Biden continues to place blame on Putin for American gas prices. On March 31, he said on Twitter: "I know gas prices are painful. My plan will help ease that pain today and safeguard against it tomorrow. I'll continue to use every tool at my disposal to protect you from Putin’s price hike. And I’m calling on Congress to put aside partisanship. Let’s meet this moment together."
On Friday, April 1, Biden announced the release up to 180 million barrels of crude oil from the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) over the next six months, in his effort to curb high gas prices. The president says this action will “serve as bridge until the end of the year when domestic production ramps up.”
The average price of gasoline in Wisconsin is $3.804 per gallon as of April 8, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
